Oral Medications - Tricylic Antidepressants
Tricyclic antidepressants block certain chemicals in
and out of nerve endings. They have a sedative effect and counteract the
effects of a hormone called acetylcholine (which makes this an anticholinergic).
Tricyclic antidepressants prevent the re-uptake of norepinephine and sarotonin
at nerve endings, therefore, can help in reduction of pain symptoms. Because
of their sedative effect they also relax the bladders detrusor muscle which
helps in relieving frequency.
